How to change the phone number associated with your Facebook account is something you should know how to do in case you change your number at some point.
This is important because the phone number is mandatory for instance if you want to get a Facebook ID, a somewhat specific situation, but it’s also necessary for other reasons, such as recovering a forgotten password, activating the two-factor authentication, receiving alerts, or allowing your friends to find you easily.
So, now that you know the importance of keeping your information updated, let’s see how to change the phone number on Facebook.
How to change your Facebook Phone Number from your PC or Mac
Step #1 – Go to the Settings panel
Go to Facebook.com, and login with your account if you haven’t already done so.
Now click the dropdown arrow, and select “Settings and Privacy”.
After that a new menu will appear, just click on Settings again.
Or if you rather prefer, just click on the following URL to get to that screen directly: https://www.facebook.com/settings/
Step #2 – Go to the Mobile Tab
On the sidebar, select the “mobile” option.
If you already have a phone number associated with your Facebook account, you will see it appear here, along with the other preferences you have activated for it.
If not, you’ll see an +Add a Phone button.
Step #3 – Add your new phone number
If you already have a phone number there, what you’ll see is a button called “+Add another mobile phone number”.
Just click on it, select your country code, add your phone number, choose the confirmation method and click on “Continue”.
After the confirmation, the number will be added.
Step #4 – Delete the old phone number
From the same “mobile” tab, now you’ll have two phones available.
All you have to do is click on “delete” on the old one, and you are done!
You’ll have to confirm that you actually want to do that and type your password, but after that, your old phone will be gone.
As you have seen, is very easy to change the Facebook Phone Number, although what you are actually doing is not a change, but adding a new phone and deleting the old one, which in part is a bit safer.
