1. Who I am

This website, javi.link, is a personal project owned and operated by Javier Cristóbal, acting as the data controller. If you have any questions about this policy, or want to exercise any of the rights described below, you can contact me at hi @ javi.link.

2. Analytics data

Simply browsing this site does not require you to give me any personal data. This site uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4), which automatically collects certain information when you visit, including:

• Pages visited and time spent on each page
• Referring website or source
• Browser type and operating system
• Approximate geographic location (country/city level, derived from IP address)
• Device type (desktop, mobile, tablet)

This data is collected anonymously and aggregated. I cannot identify you personally from this data.

3. Newsletter

If you choose to subscribe to my newsletter, I do collect personal data. This section explains exactly what happens.

What I collect

• Your email address
• The fact that you ticked the consent box, along with the date, time and IP address of the signup. I keep this as proof that consent was given
• Whether you opened my emails and which links you clicked. This is how the confirmation step works, and it tells me which topics are worth writing about

I never ask for your name or any other detail, and I will not use your address for anything other than the newsletter.

Legal basis

Your consent, under Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR. Consent is given by ticking an unticked box at signup and then confirming through a link I email you (double opt-in). You are never added to the list without completing both steps.

What I send

Announcements when I release an app, browser extension or book, and occasional discounts for subscribers. No fixed schedule, and no third-party advertising.

Who processes it

• Mautic, self-hosted on my own server in the European Union. Your address is not uploaded to any commercial newsletter platform
• Amazon Web Services (SES), in the EU (Ireland) region, which delivers the emails
• Cloudflare, which routes the signup form submission to my server

Your address is never sold, rented or shared with anyone else.

Withdrawing consent

Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can also email me at hi @ javi.link. Withdrawing is as easy as subscribing, takes effect immediately, and does not affect the lawfulness of what was sent beforehand.

4. Why I collect it

Analytics data is used solely to understand how visitors use this site: which pages are popular, where traffic comes from, and how to improve the content. Newsletter data is used solely to send you the newsletter you asked for. Neither is ever sold or shared with third parties for advertising purposes.

5. Google Analytics

Google Analytics is a web analytics service provided by Google LLC. Google may use the collected data according to its own privacy policy, available at policies.google.com/privacy. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

6. Cookies

This site uses cookies exclusively through Google Analytics. The newsletter form sets no cookies. See the Cookies Policy for full details.

7. Data retention

• Analytics: retained for 14 months in Google Analytics, then automatically deleted
• Newsletter: retained for as long as you stay subscribed. If you unsubscribe, I keep a minimal record of your address and your opt-out so that I do not email you again by mistake, and so I can evidence that consent was given and withdrawn. You can ask me to erase that too
• Unconfirmed signups: if you never click the confirmation link, the record is deleted after 90 days

8. Your rights

Under the GDPR, and depending on where you live under laws such as the CCPA, you have the right to:

• Access the personal data I hold about you
• Have it corrected if it is wrong
• Have it erased
• Restrict or object to how it is processed
• Receive it in a portable format
• Withdraw your consent at any time
• Lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority

To exercise any of these, email me at hi @ javi.link and I will respond within one month. For analytics data specifically, you can also contact Google directly or use the opt-out tools mentioned above.

9. Changes to this policy

I may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
