SafeCast Privacy Policy
SafeCast is a browser extension that hides your private information on web pages while you record demos and tutorials. This policy explains what it does, and does not, do with your data.
What SafeCast stores
SafeCast saves the rules you create: the words you want hidden, which auto-detection presets are on, the page elements you hid by clicking, your color and blur preferences, and which sites you disabled it on.
This configuration is stored using your browser's built-in extension storage (storage.sync). If you are signed into your browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox), your browser may sync this configuration across your own devices, the same way it syncs your bookmarks. SafeCast never sees or controls that sync. It is handled entirely by your browser and your browser account.
What SafeCast accesses
To hide content, SafeCast's script runs on the web pages you visit and reads the page's text and elements so it can visually cover the parts that match your rules. This reading happens only in your browser, in real time, and the results are never stored or sent anywhere.
When you use the element picker, SafeCast reads the current tab's address (hostname) so it can remember the element you picked for that specific site.
What SafeCast does not do
- It does not send any data to us or to any third party.
- It does not use any analytics, tracking, or telemetry.
- It has no servers and makes no network requests.
- It does not collect personal information, browsing history, or account credentials.
- It does not sell or share data with anyone.
Permissions and why they are needed
storage— to save your rules locally (and let your browser sync them).activeTab— to read the active tab's hostname and start the element picker when you click the SafeCast icon.- Access to all sites — because you may record any page (your app, dashboard, email, docs), SafeCast must be able to hide content on any site. It only acts on your own rules and never transmits anything.
